Glue Gun Icon
Analytical Drawing & Iconography
Objective
To find an interesting object, study its intricate detail, and develop the item into a digital icon through a process of analytical drawing to digital translation.
Reference
To begin, I took reference photos of a hot glue gun to capture an initial shape I would like to move forward with for my first sketches. Experimenting with angles, the goal was to find a position that displayed the purpose of the item.
Sketches
Sketching at different angles, I aimed to discover the most effective position to
convey to viewers the use of the hot glue gun. Deciding that aimed downward towards
a flat surface was most effective for achieving this.
Reformed Drawings
These drawings’ goal was to show the basic line work of the glue gun, while the second was focused more on shadows and depth.
Digital Iterations
Digital translation to emphasize simpler shapes.
Perspective Experimentation
Before refining the final icon, I experimented with various positioning and perspective, in order to interpret the glue gun as an effective and recognizable logo mark.
